Strategies for Reducing Gas Emissions from Transport Modalities
The issue of environmental pollution is one of the most significant problems of this era, posing a threat to life on Earth. One of the most prominent and impactful pollutants affecting humans is air pollution, primarily resulting from the increasing number of vehicles worldwide. These vehicles contribute to atmospheric pollution through emissions such as lead compounds, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, particulate matter, and other unburned pollutants.
From the greatness of the Creator and the generosity of nature towards humans, the Earth's biosphere is inherently balanced and tolerant. This means that disrupting this environmental balance due to human intervention does not result in permanent damage, as the ecosystem returns to its previous equilibrium once human influences cease, as if nothing had happened. However, rampant and irresponsible use of Earth's resources has led to significant deterioration of this environmental system. When we assess our environmental reality, we can affirm that we are approaching the end of the natural phase and fear entering the intolerable phase, given the stubbornness of some major countries towards critical environmental issues and their failure to take appropriate measures to halt environmental degradation. Environmental imbalance has deeply affected the surrounding environment, resulting in the emergence of a new balanced environmental state, but not with the purity that God created and developed over millions of years. Human actions have destroyed this new state over the past half-century, or it is on the verge of collapse if all Earth's countries do not unite and intensify efforts to address the mistakes committed against the environment.
In this article, we will address the main causes of air pollution resulting from the land transportation sector and the detrimental effects of air pollution on humans, public health, animals, and plant life. We will also review the main measures that must be taken in the land transportation sector to reduce emissions of pollutants and improve the quality of the surrounding air."
